As you search for an accountant during the profession’s busiest season, you are obviously looking for someone ready to “hit the ground running” and contribute on his or her very first day.I am that acccountant.
For the last five years I have enjoyed the great opportunity to work closely with the Director of Accounting for one of the Indianapolis’s most highly regarded accounting firms. In this position, it was my privilege to learn every aspect of the accounts receivable department, including payroll, general ledgers and the preparation of year-end budgets. Additionally, I trained on and mastered a variety of accounting programs, including Excel, Lotus, Class and Peachtree accounting.
More important than the technical skills, however, were the organizational and interpersonal skills this position encouraged me to develop. As the Director’s immediate assistant, I acted as her liaison to clients, vendors and fellow accountants. This required me to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to follow up on these tasks to the last detail, and to report on their progress at a moment’s notice.
It was a challenge, but I met it with high honors. During my fourth year at the firm, I was named employee of the year and often singled out for recognition by firm management and clients alike.
Now I am ready to bring the skills and abilities to work for a larger accountant firm with greater opportunities for advancement. I look forward to telling you in person how I can bring my energy and attention to detail to work for you.
Please call me for an interview at (555) 555-1234 to arrange a time for us to meet.
Thank you,
Amy Smith

Ms. Jonesy,
Available Immediately: Experienced Accounts Receivable Accountant
For the last five years, it has been my pleasure to work in the accounts receivable department of one of Davis & Associates, one of Tampa’s oldest and most established accounting firms.
Since it was a small department, early in my career I took on whole range of responsibilities. On any given day, I would ensure timely payment to vendors, process payments, help maintain general ledgers and negotiate past due accounts.
This variety of tasks challenged me to quickly grow my ability to manage multiple projects, work independently and consistently pay attention to detail. It also accelerated my interpersonal skills development. After all, one minute I could be summarizing charges to a partner, then the next I would be firmly pressing for overdue charges from a delinquent client.
Lastly, this position exposed me to a number of accounting programs that I used to perform my job. Consequently, I am trained and proficient on ACCPAC, Deltek Advantage, Oracle and Peachtree.
Today I am ready to apply these professional, communication and technical skills to your firm’s accounts payable division. I look forward to sharing with you in person how I can immediately begin contributing to your firm’s success.
To schedule an interview, please call me at (555)555-1212. Alternately, you can email me at asmith@sampleresume.com.
Thank you,
Amy Smith
